Reach Truck
A reach truck is used to pile up supplies, pallets of goods, and to keep storage areas tidy. The reach truck is available in several types: the straddle reach, stand-up reach and the double-deep reach.
The most basic kind is the stand-up. The forks of the truck slide under the pallet and move it to the correct storage place. The forks slide the pallet into place. This kind of reach truck is suitable when shelving units are one pallet deep.
The double-deep reach truck is like the stand-up, but is best for workplaces where shelving units are deep enough to accommodate two pallets of goods. This model has telescopic forks intended to position the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This eliminates the need to push the pallet back when another pallet needs to go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the additional advantage of being able to not only slide beneath the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are suitable for workplaces where shelving units are accessible in multiple directions. This model is best in conditions where goods would not be damaged if the sides of the pallet are grabbed.
Normally more than one type of reach truck is needed in warehouses. Manufacturing facilities and textile companies use different types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not hard to use and could make the most of available storage space while increasing production.
