Skyjack Safety
A scissor lift is a specialized piece of industrial machine which is utilized for "positioning personnel, their equipment and their tools," based on Skyjack. Anybody who is preparing to use this particular type of machine needs to familiarize themselves with the suggested safety and operational procedures recommended by the manufacturer in order to stay safe prior to attempting to operate this machinery. It could be devastating to the operator themselves and any bystanders causing severe injuries if the safety recommendations are not followed.
Area
In the best scenario, scissor lifts function at optimum levels on totally level ground. The area has to be checked and cleared of any loose debris prior to driving a scissor lift over a particular terrain. In order to lower the possibility of the scissor lift tipping over and potentially causing the operator to fall from his seat. It is better to stay away from holes or steep grades while operating. Bystanders must also remain aware and avoid the operating scissor lift in order to ensure they do not get run over.
Inspection
The user has to carefully check all vital parts of the machinery before attempting to operate a scissor lift. A functional test performed while the lift is retracted enables the operator to see if all components are correctly functioning before the task is initiated. It is recommended to perform a daily check on this machine prior to starting the shift and some places even want an inspection to happen at the end of the shift too. Different companies have different policies in place to maintain safety.
Inspecting the tires must be part of the inspection. These components obviously add to the movability of the scissor lift and also provide the machine with a solid foundation. A tire which is faulty or worn can blow and throw the operator from their location on top of scissor lift.
