Warehouse Forklift Maintenance
Forklifts need a proper maintenance program to help increase the equipments lifespan and is an important factor in allowing the machinery to function effectively and safely. Completing regular forklift inspections and performing preventive maintenance regularly will help to guarantee the safe and efficient use of the equipment.
Daily Checklist
The daily checklist is an important tool in any forklift maintenance program. These checklists would help to document any and all possible issues. They are required by the OSHA or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The daily checklists could also be audited by OSHA during any routine inspection. Drivers should complete the inspection from the start of their shift. If any major issues are found, the forklift can not be used until the problem has been fixed.
Maintenance and Safety Go Hand-in-Hand
Within the US, there are approximately 100 deaths related to forklift accidents and statistic show that almost 20,000 people are seriously injured too. This number translates to represent 54 people per day, 7 days a week, for the whole year. Many of these mishaps could be easily prevented if the forklift had been properly maintained and serviced. In some circumstances, it might seem like a cost savings to skip or delay regular maintenance, however, these savings would pale in comparison to the cost of a single mishap.
Things to be Serviced
The manufacturers owner guidebook would include a recommended maintenance schedule. Schedules will vary depending on each manufacturer and each and every kind of forklift. Each schedule will contain various basic things. For instance, in a combustion engine, the engine oil and the oil filter should be replaced sometimes. Hydraulic levels should be inspected too. Be certain to check hoses for any indications of cracking. Other things include the electrical systems, the brakes and the transmission of the forklift.
