Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescopic booms are big industrial machines designed with a straight boom arm which is extendable. The boom is usually located on a rotating turntable. The telescoping boom lifts are usually used for jobs that need tasks to be performed at heights that exceed other types of lifts. For example, employees could carry out exterior repairs or renovations on medium sized buildings but utilizing these lifts instead of having the extra work of setting up an outside elevator or a pulley system.
The boom lift is only designed to hold one person. These buckets are more suitable to particular jobs like electrical repair, as opposed to window washing or general maintenance. These lifts come in electric and gas configurations and are available with both indoor and outdoor tires.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces beneath the work platform. These braces squeeze together in order to push the platform straight up. Because these types of machinery must be positioned directly below the work location, compared to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, however, offer larger platforms that allow the operator controlling the lift to access a larger work surface once the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of a concern with these types of machines, as they must sit on flat ground in order to be utilized. Scissor lifts are ideal for being utilized for cladding or window installation, as they provide the employees with the desired mobility; they are also a good choice for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
Cherry pickers, boom trucks and bucket trucks each refer to the class a type of utility vehicle used particularly for vertical work. Generally, these trucks have a cab. It is here where the driver sits and operates the machine. There is a bucket for where the worker could stand as well as an actuator arm for lifting the boom and a winch for lifting.
Boom trucks take personnel to heights that would usually be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to lift heavy materials or equipment from one place to another. There are a variety of different crane types that could perform a variety of purposes. Both of these different kinds of equipment excel at different tasks and are great for specific applications and completing particular jobs.
